Module Five: Dual Diagnosis, Evaluation and Treatment Strategies

It is estimated that 50 to 70% of all addicts have a co-occurring disorder.  Due to such high incidence, it is imperative that professionals become familiar with effective diagnostic and treatment protocol for these individuals.  Participants will learn how to complete an in-depth Biopsychosocial Assessment to evaluate for a co-occurring diagnosis.  In addition, treatment strategies and protocols will be introduced, along with applied pharmacology and symptomology of individuals exhibiting co-occurring disorders.

Module Eight: Creation & Organizational Management of Addiction Treatment Programs

This module is designed for those interested in opening their own treatment facility.  Modalities of treatment reviewed include: Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Programs.  Participants will be introduced to various assets of designing and evaluating substance abuse treatment programs in addition to administrative aspects of managing such programs. Drug court, SAP & EAP programs will be discussed.

This module will focus on both Federal and State guidelines, rules, codes and laws concerning addiction treatment.  State and Federal Confidentiality regulations will be reviewed as well as its positive advantages as a Treatment Strategy.  The Marchmen Act, Baker Act & Madan Act.  The Florida Administrative Code 6SD-16 & CFR 42.  Code of Ethics.  Client rights.  HIPPA guidelines.  OSHA requirements. Ethical Responsibilities.    Provider/Client relationship.  Errors & omissions.  Professional competence & liabilities.  Other legal responsibilities.  State required forms are provided & reviewed.  Record keeping standards will be presented.

This module will introduce participants to the various aspects of Eating Disorders.  DSM-IVTR Criteria, Medical Aspects, Signs and Symptoms, Mental Health Issues and Treatment Protocols will be presented.  The Stages of Eating Disorders, Medical Complications of Eating Disorders, Neurochemical Effects of Eating Disorders, Common Therapeutic Techniques for Eating Disorders, Diagnostic Criteria of Eating Disorders.
